“Usman took shortcuts and I never needed that. I've had a long journey. I deserved this, with blood, sweat and tears. I never cheated. (…) I had two epic fights against him (Usman) and I beat him in many rounds. Where does this put me? Why am I not in the weight-for-pound rankings? I forgot, everyone hates me”, said the athlete.

This weekend, Covington had his second failed attempt at winning a linear belt with the Ultimate gloves. Knocked out by Usman in 2019, in a clash that also sold the setback dearly, this time, the North American went further and lost by the judges' decision.

The negative result marked the third setback in Colby's career, who is now number one in the welterweight rankings (up to 77kg), behind only the champion. Kamaru, in turn, extended his undefeated streak to 18 victories as a professional in MMA.
