Zhang highlights balance in fight against Namajunas, but regrets new defeat and promises to 'come back'

Despite the defeat, the Chinese believes she can rebuild her path in search of a new chance for the strawweight belt

The feeling that I could have 'done more' is present in the thoughts of Weili Zhang. Defeated by Rose namajunas in the split decision of the judges in the UFC 268 last Saturday (6), the Chinese highlighted the balance of the rematch and regretted the setback. Still, she promises that she will turn things around in search of a new chance at the strawweight title (under 52,1kg).

“It was a very close fight, with both having good moments in the fight. I'm really looking forward to a new encounter against Rose (Namajunas) and I also believe that I will regain my title as soon as I have the opportunity,” said Zhang.

Despite being defeated, Weili says she is grateful for the opportunity to fight in Madison Square Garden, in New York (USA). The Chinese also highlights that she is happy with the opportunity to have sharpened her game with some of the best coaches in the world.

“I am very happy with the opportunity to fight in New York, in addition to training with many of the best coaches in the world. We cannot control the outcome of the fight, but we know that we can control our effort as much as possible”, concluded the Chinese.

At 32, Weili Zhang has a record of 21 wins and three losses in his career – the last two against Rose namajunas for the strawweight title. The Chinese woman may now have to build a new path if she wants to reach another title fight.
