When MMA was born, still under the name of vale tudo, fights with no time limit, no rules and, most importantly, no weight limit, were common. The so-called David versus Goliath clash reached its peak at UFC 3, when gigantic sumo wrestler Emmanuel Yarborough, who weighed more than 300 kilos, lost to karateka “runt” Keith Hackney, weighing 90 kilos.
With the advent of the Unified Rules, weight categories were defined to provide greater security for fighters. In this way, bizarre fights like Yarborough-Hackney, which still exist to this day, were relegated to obscure and unregulated events. Now a new promotion in Greater São Paulo will resume the practice.
Coyote Fight Night, which will have its first edition on August 10th, has scheduled a clash between a huge super heavyweight and a small flyweight. The Guarulhos event will see an unequal duel between Julio Muralha (2,00 m tall and 220 kilos) against Ricardo Sattelmayer (1,68m tall and weighs 57 kilos at the weigh-ins for his fights).
The event will mark Muralha's debut in professional MMA. He has a black belt in judo, a purple belt in jiu-jitsu and was a rugby player. Sattelmayer has an MMA record of 3-6, in addition to 20 MMA fights.
