The news of the recovery in six weeks from the knee injury suffered by “Showtime” – which had already prevented him from competing for the featherweight belt against José Aldo at UFC Rio 4 – was announced this Thursday (20), after examinations carried out by the organization's doctor.
On the other hand, contrary to what usually happens with meniscus injuries, Pettis will not need surgery to treat it. The information was released by ESPN.com and later confirmed with UFC president Dana White on the website MMA fighting. In fact, the request for diagnosis by the organization's doctor was a demand from the manager himself, who disagreed with the assessment presented by the athlete – which stated that he would return to action in just three weeks.
Anthony Pettis would face the featherweight champion José Aldo in the main fight of UFC Rio 4, on August 3, but ended up being replaced by “Korean zombie” Jung Chan-Sung after the announcement of the injury suffered during his training. “Showtime” even tried to ask for TJ Grant’s place in the lightweight title fight against Ben henderson at UFC 164, four weeks later, but the spot remains with the Canadian.
