Considered one of the most dangerous challengers he faced Anderson Silva has fought since winning the UFC middleweight title, Chris Weidman continues his journey of affirmation in front of the champion. In an interview with the website I ufc.co, as part of the UFC 162 promotion, the North American defined his game for the fight and guaranteed that the Brazilian will have to respect his qualities.
“I'm a fighter who puts pressure on. I'll be moving forward, using my height, varying between my takedowns and my punches. I won't back down too much. He (Anderson) would be a fool if he didn't respect me as a fighter. On July 6th, when we enter the Octagon, he will have respect for me,” said Weidman.
The challenger also praised Spider and highlighted that he will not be able to make mistakes against the champion. “I have been dreaming of this fight against Anderson Silva since I started in MMA. He makes you pay for every mistake you make, he is an opportunist. Probably your biggest threat is your confidence, you make a mistake and it catches you. He’s a great champion for a reason, but he knows I’m a terrible matchup and a stronger opponent than some people can understand,” said the American.
Chris Weidman faces Anderson Silva on July 6, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (USA), in the main fight of UFC 162. The clash marks the eleventh belt defense for Spider, who has held the Ultimate middleweight title since October 2006.
