In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS, Puro Osso spoke about the frustration of not being able to get a contract with the UFC in 2018, when he ended up losing in a split decision from the judges after a great fight against Raulian paiva. The São Paulo native, however, believes that things happened at the right time.

“It was frustrating due to the defeat, obviously, but it was voted the best fight of the season at the time, I was very happy with the presentation and the chat I had immediately afterwards with Dana White. Of course I wanted the UFC contract. I would have been there three years ago, but, as we say, everything happens at the right time and not at our moment. Now my time has come to be able to cultivate this, enjoy this moment being part of the UFC”, said Puro Osso.

Three years without fighting almost led Puro Osso to give up on MMA

After hitting the post for a chance at a UFC contract in the fight against Raulian paiva, Puro Osso was away from fighting for three years. Cancellations, injuries and the coronavirus pandemic kept the athlete away from competitions and almost made him give up his fighting career.

“It really was a very difficult period. I've had a lot of fights canceled over the last three years, including a fight canceled that day, in Miami. I weighed in on Friday and on Saturday the promoter called to cancel. Other events also fell through, I had a surgery that left me out for a long time and then the pandemic came. It really messed with my head and I thought about giving up. During that time I started teaching a lot. Fighters do not have a guaranteed salary. I started teaching my ass off, it was fine with me, but I had a bigger goal in my career and in my life. The one who helped me a lot was Diego Lima, my coach, who told me to stay focused, keep trying, that one day it would work out. That time has now come,” said Allan.

Allan Puro Osso He stepped into a cage again in July this year, but didn't stay in it for long. Chute Boxe athlete Diego Lima submitted his opponent in just over three minutes in the first round.

“I couldn’t even warm up my body (laughs). But that's it, in the fight you can't test. In the opportunity you have, you have to end it, close it. Theoretically that's what I want to do on Saturday. When you have an opportunity, decide the fight. But it was great to fight again, I got the fight at the last minute, a week in advance and in a different category. I was very happy. It was the fight that opened the doors for me to the UFC. Two days later, my manager, Jorge Patino Macaco, and my coach, Diego Lima, called me in a video call. When I answered, they were both emotional, Diego was almost crying and they gave me the news that he already had the contract in hand, signed and a fight date set. It was very emotional for me. A unique moment, to stay in my memory”, recalled Allan.

More mature, more complete and looking for a victory on debut

Three years after losing the fight to Raulian paiva and, consequently, the chance to enter the UFC in 2018, Allan Nascimento guarantees that he is now a more mature, more complete athlete who seeks to capitalize on the opportunities to define fights.

” Today's Allan is a much more mature Allan, a little more complete, with a fighting game seeking definition. Sometimes I ended up letting some opportunities pass me by and the idea now is not to miss them anymore. Sometimes a knockout or a submission passes, you don't embrace it and end up losing the fight. Don't leave it to the judges as they will make you cry. The Allan who comes today is more complete, more mature, with a clear head and prepared for any type of war”, concluded Puro Osso.
