The featherweight title fight between José Aldo e Anthony Pettis was made official, last Tuesday, as the main attraction of UFC 163, also called UFC Rio 4. However, the duel has just been cancelled. The North American fighter suffered an injury and will not be able to challenge the Nova União athlete's title on August 4th, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. As a result, the show's organizers acted quickly and called the Korean zombie, Chan sung jung. The information was confirmed by Dana White, president of the franchise, via Twitter.
As soon as the manager confirmed Pettis's departure from the title fight, the fighter also used the microblog to explain his injury. “Injuries are part of sport, I had a small injury to my meniscus. I was so ready for this fight. It won't stop me! I’ll be back soon,” he wrote.
Sung Jung, who has an MMA record of 13 wins and three losses, had a commitment in Ultimate. He would face Ricardo Lamas at UFC 162, on July 6, in Las Vegas. But with the organization's call, he readily agreed to compete for the category title. O Korean zombie, who recently recovered from an injury, has not fought since May 2012, when he submitted Dustin poirier at UFC on FUEL 3.
