The gift, which ended up becoming a provocation, refers to another controversy involving Paulo. After the miner's defeat to Israel adesanya, in September 2020, the Tupiniquim admitted to having drunk wine before the confrontation, to put an end to supposed insomnia.

For the fight against Paulo, Marvin needed to adapt to the conditions suggested in the duel, as the Minas Gerais native admitted, at the beginning of last week, that he would not be able to reach the middleweight limit (up to 83,9kg). With the initial agreement broken, the confrontation ended up taking place in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg).
