Called up at the last minute to face Islam Makhachev, Dan Hooker believes he could be close to a fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg). The New Zealander pointed out the ideal scenario for the future of the division and indicated that if the Russian beats the UFC 267, you could have a chance to fight for the category title. The statement was made in a conversation with the press in Las Vegas (USA).

“Without a doubt, with a victory, I will put myself close to the title. After this fight there is also the winner of (Justin) Gaethje and (Michael) Chandler. If (Charles) Oliveira wins and so does Chandler, then do we really want to see that again? Many different things can happen. But yeah, I'm one of two guys who could get a title shot with this. It’s a very real possibility,” Hooker planned.

Sixth place in the category ranking led by Charles of the Bronx, Dan will return to the Octagon just over a month after his last fight. On September 25th, the New Zealander defeated Nasrat Haqparast in the unanimous decision of the judges and recovered from two consecutive setbacks. The fighter has a record in the sport of 21 positive results and 10 negative results.
