Middle weights (up to 83,9 kg) Paulo borrachinha e Marvin vettori reached a verbal agreement to face each other at catchweight with a limit of up to 88,4 kg. The decision was taken after the Brazilian stating, two days before the weigh-in, that he weighed 96 kg and would not be able to reach the division limit.

Borrachinha and Vettori reached the agreement during an interview with North American ESPN. The two spoke for more than ten minutes, exchanging provocations, but confirmed the duel this Saturday (23).
According to the Brazilian, it was the UFC who suggested the catchweight fight when he appeared heavier than usual the week of the fight. Borrachinha told Vettori to “be a man” and accept the fight without asking for part of the purse allocated to him, which is common when fighters don't make the agreed weight.
“I don’t want to be fined. 'Ah, if you don't pay 30%, I won't fight'. Be a man. Be a man of your word and show up to fight on Saturday”, said Borrachinha.
Vettori assured that he will show up to fight, but criticized the Brazilian's lack of professionalism.
“You must make weight! Every fighter here has to make weight. We have a moment called weighing, when you step on the scale and weigh the weight. We have a weight division that we fight in. You act like you don’t know that part”, said the Italian.
After a few minutes of discussion, Vettori questioned whether Borrachinha would be able to weigh 88,5 kg. With the Brazilian's positive response, the two reached a verbal agreement. The official announcement of the change of category has not yet been made by the UFC.
