“No matter what it’s going to be like, I’m going to put on a great show. I'm very excited that this time there will be a knockout. She will feel her 'poison'. I'm very excited for this fight. We don't control the result, we only control what we do. This time I worked hard, I have a good head, I'm fine, I guarantee that next Saturday, the fight will be a show. I remember that in the fight against Montana (De La Rosa), when the fight ended, Dana White was standing up applauding. If he's back in the arena watching, he'll give a standing ovation again.”

How was your preparation for the fight against Manon Fiorot? Did the postponement of the duel (scheduled for UFC 266) affect you in any way?

“We had a wonderful camp, we were ready for the UFC 266. The bad part was having to cut weight twice, since I don't usually lose weight in a sauna, I usually lose weight on a diet and when I found out, it was Wednesday morning and I was already almost at my weight. This complicated me, losing weight twice was a bad thing, but other than that, everything went smoothly. I'm fine, I'm happy. Of course we wanted to fight in UFC 266, a bigger stage with an audience, but God’s plans are bigger than mine and I’m very happy with that.”

Your last fight (against Montana De La Rosa, in February) ended in a draw because the referee took a point away from you, claiming you held on to the fence. What was your feeling after the fight? Did you think he was too strict?

“So, I think I won that fight. But, when I leave my house, I go out to do a big show. The draw, victory or defeat is relative, I went there to put on a show and I think I did it. That day, maybe I didn't choose the best techniques or the best defenses, but I left home with a goal and I achieved it.” What made me upset wasn't the point taken away. I recognize that I made a mistake and it's okay. But, he could have just warned me, because it was like a 'scare' and another thing, she punched me six times in the back of the head and he didn't warn her. That was something that made me very upset. He has to be fair. I messed up? I was wrong. But she also made a mistake and he should have taken a point from her too.”

How was the training period in Las Vegas?

“Look, it's all been a 'rollercoaster', a lot has happened in the last few days. After the postponement of the duel in UFC 266, if I left I wouldn't be able to return to fight in card this weekend, because I didn't have enough time to take another one. My coach wouldn't be able to stay because her visa was about to expire. My jiu-jitsu coach tested positive before traveling, so he couldn't come (to Vegas). They were very crazy days, we didn't know what we were going to do. I didn't want to stay in Vegas, I wanted to leave, but they told me that if I left I wouldn't fight until next year. I’m very much a homebody, very much a family person, so I really wanted to leave, but I couldn’t.”

In its division (flyweight), Brazil has four representatives in the top-10 (Taila Santos, Jéssica Andrade, Jennifer Maia and Viviane Araújo). Do you already see yourself among your compatriots at the top of the rankings?

“I really wanted to (reach the top-10) after the fight against Montana. I was supposed to be 'in the heads', but unfortunately we didn't win. But like I said, I don't think about it much. I think about doing my job well. By doing this, the result automatically comes. I get paid to go there and fight, regardless of whether I'm the champion or last in the rankings. I don’t worry too much about this ranking thing, if I do my job with excellence, I’ll soon be the champion.”

Have you ever imagined a possible duel with champion Valentina Shevchenko?

"For sure. She is very cold, does not expose herself. She's a tough match for anyone. Valentina doesn't make mistakes and that's what makes her very dangerous. I don't consider her the strongest in the category, but what makes her such a dominant champion is her intelligence. She doesn't make mistakes, she doesn't step outside the curve and that's what draws a lot of attention. Her fights aren’t exciting at all, but she does what she has to do, goes out there and wins and that’s it.”
