Usman praises Nick Diaz's return performance and suggests new opponent for veteran

Welterweight champion surprises and describes the 'bad boy's' performance in defeat to Robbie Lawler as 'incredible'

Criticized by fans and specialized press, Nick Diaz gained weight support after his defeat to Robbie Lawler No. UFC 266. Current welterweight champion (up to 77kg.), Kamaru Usman was convinced by the 'bad boy's' performance in his return to MMA after more than six years of inactivity. The Nigerian also suggested a next opponent for the North American.

“He has to fight a fight that makes sense. That one (against Lawler) was an entertainment match. He had a great performance. Obviously, Robbie was too much for him. Robbie was active and he is tough”, said Usman, in an interview with Helen Yee.

Convinced by Diaz's performance, Kamaru went further. The champion also suggested what the 'bad boy's' next step should be, if he wants to test himself again.

“I really liked what I saw. If he wants to come back, he needs to be smart in the fights he picks. He can select his matchups. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Matt Brown swapping forces. It’s a big showdown,” he concluded.

PUBLICITY:

No UFC 266, Nick was cast as one of the show's main attractions. The athlete, however, was far from the exciting performances of years ago. Former Strikeforce champion, Diaz ended up being knocked out by Lawler in the third round.
