After Eder Jofre, Brazil may have a new representative in the international boxing 'Hall of Fame'. Former world champion in two different divisions (super featherweight and lightweight), Acelino Popó was nominated to the select list along with 41 other former boxers and is competing for three places in 2022.

“I am very happy and honored to join the select list at International Boxing Hall of Fame, with great idols and legends of world boxing. Everyone is deserving. This is a great recognition and is historic for Brazil. God willing, I will be among the 3 elected to the Hall of Fame 2022”, celebrated Popó in his 'Twitter' official.
For the position, however, Popó is competing with his former opponent Joel Casamayor, as well as names like Chris John, Rafael Marquez, Jorge Arce and Roy Jones Jr. So far, the only Tupiniquim representative is the former bantamweight and featherweight champion , Éder Jofre.
One of the biggest names in the history of Brazilian boxing, Popó has not performed since November 2017, when he faced Mexican Gabriel Martínez. On that occasion, the former super featherweight and lightweight champion won by unanimous decision from the judges.
