It is not the first time that the rivalry between Israel adesanya e Jon Jones is highlighted. Previously, the New Zealander stated that he would like to face 'Bones', who tried to mock the challenge. The two fighters even treat each other with hostility in every statement to the media.

Adesanya must now defend his middleweight division belt (up to 83,9kg) in January 2022, in a rematch against Robert whittaker. On the other hand, Jones – who was preparing to debut in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg) has an uncertain future in his career after a new problem with the law.
