Considered by many to be one of the greatest names in boxing history, Manny Pacquiao announced his retirement from the sport. Now a former athlete, the Filipino called it the 'most difficult decision' and will now dedicate himself to the presidency of his country in next year's elections. “To the biggest fans and the biggest sport in the world, thank you! Thank you for all the wonderful memories. This is the hardest decision I've ever made, but I'm at peace with it. Chase your dreams, work hard and watch what happens. Goodbye, boxing,” wrote Pacquiao.
And this isn't the first time Manny has announced that he's 'hung up his gloves'. In 2016, he retired, but returned to his position months later. Parallel to boxing, Pacquiao is also present in the Philippine senate and is even focused on running for president of his country.
At 42 years old, Manny Pacquiao had 72 fights in the 'noble art', with 62 wins, eight losses and two draws in his career. Furthermore, in his career, he also has the record of being the only world champion in eight different weight divisions in history. In his last performance, held in August 2021, the Filipino was defeated by Yordenis Ugás in a unanimous decision by the judges.
