Kamaru Usman surpasses Jon Jones and takes the lead in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings

After defending the featherweight belt against Brian Ortega, Alexander Volkanovski also rose in the rankings and reached third place

The UFC has a new king. In an update carried out last Monday night (27), Kamaru Usman surpassed Jon Jones and took the lead in the organization's weight-for-weight rankings. Coincidentally or not, Jones lost his post days after being arrested accused of domestic violence.

Owner of a record of 19 wins and just one defeat, Kamaru Usman became UFC welterweight champion (up to 77 kg) in March 2019, defeating Tyron woodley. Since then, there have been four successful defenses of the title: against Colby covington, Gilbert Durinho e Jorge masvidal (twice). The Nigerian defends the title for the fifth time in UFC 268, on November 6, in a rematch against Covington.

Another champion to gain positions in the Ultimate weight-for-pound rankings was Alexander Volkanovsky. After defend the featherweight title (up to 65,7 kg) against Brian Ortega at UFC 266, the Australian overtook Israel adesanya, middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) and reached third place.

The one who gained the most positions in the last update was the bantamweight (up to 61,2 kg) Merab Dvalishvili. With the victory over Marlon Moraes, the Georgian rose five positions in the division ranking, reaching fifth place. The Brazilian, in turn, dropped four positions and is now in tenth place.

Other winners of UFC 266 that rose in their respective rankings were Dan Hooker, who gained two positions and reached sixth place in the lightweight category (up to 70,3 kg), Chris Daukas, who jumped three spaces and reached seventh position in the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg) and the Brazilian Taila Santos, which moved up three positions and is now ninth in flyweight (up to 56,7 kg).

Jessica Stacker, who knocked out Cynthia Calvillo in the first round last Saturday (25), remained in first place in the flyweight ranking, but gained a position in the women's weight-for-weight ranking, surpassing the former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and taking fifth place.
