Last Saturday (25), Brian ortega had the chance to become the new featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) in the fight against Alexander Volkanovsky, valid for the main fight of the UFC 266. The American gave a fair fight and had good moments, but was defeated by unanimous decision from the judges.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Ortega reacted to the loss to the champion. When asked about the fight, he believed he could finish Volkanovski in the third round, but admitted that the champion was even tougher than expected.

“I thought everything was ready. It's exactly everything we trained for the fight and, like I said, I was trying to 'cut' his head off, but he's f***ing tough. I tried to squeeze that neck and, believe me, I tried to finish him off. I heard that he was twitching, but he still escaped,” recalls Ortega.

The combat even marked the second attempt to Brian ortega try to win the belt. Previously, the North American had stopped at Max Holloway, in 2018. On his second chance, he had a possibility of finishing Alexander Volkanovsky, but failed. His record now has 15 wins, two losses and one 'no result' fight in his career.
