Former UFC interim champion Carlos Condit announces retirement from MMA at age 37

Considered one of the most exciting welterweights in the sport, the 'Natural Born Killer' says goodbye to MMA with 32 wins and 14 losses

Former interim UFC champion and former WEC champion, welterweight (up to 77 kg) Carlos Condit announced, last Thursday (16), his retirement from MMA. The 37-year-old American hangs up his gloves after a 19-year career.

Considered one of the best and most exciting welterweights in MMA, Carlos Condit He began his career in 2002, fighting on the regional scene for a few years until reaching the WEC in 2007, where he stood out.

Carlos Condit He won the WEC welterweight belt in his second fight, submitting John Alessio. O "Natural Born Killers” still defended the title on three occasions before the division was dissolved and integrated into the UFC.

After debuting with a defeat to Martin Kampmann in Ultimate, he scored big victories over Jake ellenberger, Rory McDonald, Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim, earning two “Knockout of the Night” awards and one “Fight of the Night” award along the way. The good sequence qualified him to face Nick Diaz for the interim welterweight title. Condit defeated Diaz in a close split decision to win his only UFC belt in February 2012.

The most remembered moment of Carlos Condit in the octagon is, without a doubt, a title fight against Robbie Lawler, at UFC 195. Champion and challenger fought a true war, considered one of the greatest fights in the history of the sport. The victory, however, went to Lawler via split decision.

After the war against Robbie Lawler, Condit suffered four consecutive defeats in the octagon and retired from MMA for two years. In 2020, he returned with two consecutive victories, but was defeated in his last appearance, against Max griffin, UFC 264, in July of this year.
