Pezão makes weight and warns: “I’m trained to win the belt”

Brazilian faces Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight belt this Saturday (25)

The Brazilian Antonio Pezão He's ready for the biggest challenge of his career. Escalated to face Cain Velazquez for the heavyweight belt, next Saturday (25), the athlete from Paraíba successfully passed the last challenge: the scale.

In the traditional weigh-in that precedes the event, the champion weighed 108,9 kg, while Pezão weighed 119,4 kg, close to the limit of the heavyweight division. After stepping on the scale, the Brazilian did not hide his optimism for the triumph. “I know it’s a great opportunity for me. I am well trained to put on a great show and win the belt,” he said.

In addition to Pezão, the show's fight program features two more Brazilians in action. junior gypsy, who returns to the octagon to face Mark Hunt, weighed 108,5 kg, well below the limit for the heavyweight category. Already Glover Teixeira, who will face  James Te Huna, weighed in at exactly 93 kg, the maximum weight in the light heavyweight division.

Despite the success of the protagonists of the main fights, not all athletes passed the scale challenge. Nah-Shon Burrell, between welterweights, and Khabib Nurmagomedov, in the lightweight division, they were above the limits of their categories and will have one hour to reach the regulatory weight.
