North American John Cholish was faithful to his promise to retire regardless of the result of his UFC fight in Combate 2, and announced the end of his career after being defeated by Brazilian Gleison Tibau, this Saturday (18), in Jaraguá do Sul (SC). In an interview with the website MMA Junkie Shortly after the fight, Cholish stated that the financial issue was fundamental in his decision.
“I'm lucky to have a job that pays me very well. I really respect the guys who fight at this level. I think they could be compensated much better based on the income the UFC brings in. Fortunately, I can just stop and I'm okay with that”, declared the now former fighter.
John also appealed to the organization to better pay the athletes it has under contract. “I didn't mean it in a disrespectful way to the other fighters because I think they do a great job. But I hope that Zuffa (responsible for managing Ultimate) and the UFC start paying them a little better”, he concluded.
John Cholish, 28 years old, began his professional career in 2007, with a defeat to Jason Patino. After that he won all eight of his victories in a row – until he lost to Danny Castillo in May of last year. In his last appearance in the octagon, in the UFC at Combate 2, Renzo Gracie's purple belt was submitted by Gleison Tibau.
