Information was revealed by Dedé Pederneiras backstage at UFC Combate 2

Renan BaraoThe Brazilian Renan Barao may be forced to leave the main fight of UFC 161, an event that is scheduled to take place on June 15, in Winnipeg, Canada. The interim bantamweight champion suffered an injury in training and is doubtful about defending his reign against Eddie Wineland. The information was revealed by Dedé Pederneiras, Renan's coach, backstage at UFC Combate 2.

“Renan suffered an injury to his right foot in training, but he is not out yet. He did some tests and the results will be out on Monday”, said the coach, without going into further details.

The fight against Wineland will be Barão's second defense of his interim belt. He won the title by beating Urijah faber at UFC 149, in July 2012 and defended the title at UFC on FUEL 7, in March, against Michael McDonald. The current division champion is Dominick Cruz, who has also been away from the Octagon since October 2011, due to a serious knee injury.
