Deiveson Figueiredo projects the future and reveals hurt with Brandon Moreno for denying trilogy

Former flyweight champion, ‘Daico’ says he wants to regain the title before moving up a category and promises to knock out Mexico in a possible third clash

Former flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg.), Deiveson Figueiredo finds himself in a delicate position in Ultimate. After losing the second chapter of the rivalry against Brandon Moreno, the Brazilian saw the Mexican being reluctant about a possible trilogy and is dissatisfied with the stance of the current division champion.

In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS channel, ‘Daico’, as he is known, recalled that he had the opportunity to deny a rematch with Moreno, but insisted on facing him. However, now, he claims that the Mexican has adopted a different stance and questions the athlete's conduct.

“Lately I've been so upset with this guy (Brandon Moreno) that one day he will fall in front of me and that will be the day that I will beat this kid, for his lack of character. (After the first fight) I could very well say: ‘I fought you, you didn’t beat me and I’m not going to give you a rematch’. But I maintained my stance and said: ‘I want the second fight with you’. Now, the guy beat me, I asked for the trilogy and he decided not to give it to me”, said Figueiredo.

With the rivalry brewing, ‘Daico’ also indicates that he could face Moreno even in Mexico and promises to knock him out if the trilogy happens in the near future.

“It’s a huge lack of character and he knows that the fight to be had is with me. It's a fight that sells and will draw the biggest audience, especially if it's in Mexico. A lot of people know me and know that I wasn't doing well in that fight, but it's in God's hands. I'm sure if it's meant to happen, it will happen. This guy is not going to act like a slacker, because the time we meet I will be totally different and my desire will be to knock him out and beat him up”, added Deiveson.

Preparation error

After drawing in the first fight and keeping the belt, Figueiredo was unable to hold on as champion in the second chapter of the rivalry and ended up submitted by Moreno in the third round of the UFC 263. More than two months later, the Brazilian says he had problems making weight and believes he made a mistake in his preparation for the duel.

PUBLICITY:

“When it got there (the time), I almost didn't make weight because of it. The week of the fight I had hard training, which left me sore for the fight, which couldn't have happened. We will still have several meetings and we will reach an ideal point so that I can arrive 100% and totally focused, with a clear mind. (…) I'm a very calm guy. Even though I lose, I know how to keep my head up and move forward. I'm very focused, I want to train and be the real me. I entered the fight and didn't do anything – I just received blows. And I'm going to train a lot so I don't get tired. Whoever gets in front of me, I’m going to be beaten from the first round to the last”, highlighted the athlete.

Future in the flies

Asked about his future in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg), the man from Pará also projected his next steps in the current category. He says that, at the moment, he wants to regain the belt and considers that he can move up to bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) after two title defenses.

“I want to win the belt back, make two defenses and say I want to move up. This is in my head and I want to achieve this goal in my life of regaining the belt and moving up to bantamweight. I'm working really hard for this and I usually say that I want to fill the 'medal' that the UFC gives", he concluded.
