Former PRIDE and UFC fighter Phil Baroni announces retirement from mixed martial arts at age 45

Former PRIDE and UFC fighter, welterweight (up to 77kg.) Phil Baroni has officially announced his retirement from MMA. The revelation took place on his private account on 'Twitter'. In the publication, the veteran thanked his fans for their love during his journey and defined the experience as 'fun'.

"I am retired. My career has come to an end. Thank you to my fans for the support. It was fun. Thank you for the memories. It should have been a long time ago. 'Goodbye Amegos' to Mexico,” wrote Baroni.

Now a former athlete, the American still suggests that he could have retired some time ago.

“I should have listened to legendary coach Javier Mendez (one of the leaders of the American Kickboxing Academy) a long time ago,” he concluded.

A long-time veteran, Phil Baroni has a career to be proud of. In his 21-year career, the former athlete has performed in events such as UFC, PRIDE, Bellator, Strikeforce and EliteXC. His record, however, ended negative, with 15 wins and 18 losses – the last of which, to Sai Wang, in September 2019.
