Pressured by two consecutive defeats in the UFC, cody stmann 'aimed high' for his next fight in the organization. The North American states that he wants to face Sean O'Malley and believes that 'Sugar' doesn't have the game to compete at the top of the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg.).

“The 'hype' around him is not real. I fight a guy like Sean O'Malley, after all, I've already fought the champion (aljamain sterling) and against the guys that nobody wants to fight in MMA, the guys who are 'killing people'. So, a fight against Sean O'Malley doesn't scare me in the same way as fighting Urijah (Faber) or any of the guys I mentioned. I think Sean O'Malley would be one of the worst guys I fought in my UFC career,” said Stamann, in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

Additionally, Stamann responded to a statement from O'Malley, who said he didn't mind fighting unranked athletes in the bantamweight division. The North American now reveals that he respected 'Sugar's' statement.

“He openly said he didn’t want to fight anyone in the top-15. He was like, 'I get paid the same. Why would I want to face someone tougher?' and honestly, when he said that, I actually had more respect for him because he was dancing around that issue the whole time. In the eyes of an athlete – maybe not in the eyes of the average casual MMA fan, it's not really about how well you play against a guy who's ranked 10th in the world. It’s about your performance against the fighters who are in the top XNUMX”, concluded the American.

Pointed out as one of the possible contenders for the belt in the past, Stamann finds himself in a position of affirmation in Ultimate. He lost to Jimmie rivera e Merab Dvalishvili in the unanimous decision of the judges and needs to win in the next round, if he wants to remain in the organization. At 31 years old, the athlete has a record of 19 triumphs, four setbacks and one draw.
