Bellator President admits negotiations to sign Olympic champion in Tokyo

After Gable Stevenson expressed his desire to move to MMA, Scott Coker admitted that he has already contacted the athlete's representatives

With an eye on strengthening his fighter squad, Bellator president Scott Coker admitted that he is already negotiating with a big name. In an interview after the Bellator 264 this Friday (13), the agent said he contacted the agents of Olympic wrestling champion Gable Stevenson. After winning gold in Tokyo, the North American left the doors open for a migration to MMA.

“I can say this, that we have already been in contact with your agents. There's still a dialogue going on, but, he really wants to fight now. If he really wants to come to MMA, we would love to have him here. Nobody builds wrestling athletes like us. I think we're the best at it. I believe this will be a great home for him,” said Cooker in an interview after the show.

At just 21 years old, Gable Stevenson is known for his successful career in wrestling. Champion of the up to 125kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, the young man would probably be part of the squad in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2kg). The category currently has an interim champion, Valentin Moldavsky, and a linear belt holder, the American Ryan bader.
