Ronaldo Jacaré announces retirement from MMA

At 41, the Brazilian hung up his gloves, but left open his return to jiu-jitsu, the sport in which he made history

The career of one of the greatest middleweights (up to 83,9 kg) of all time is over. At 41 years old, Ronaldo Jacare announced his retirement from MMA last Tuesday night (10). The announcement was made by Espírito Santo in an interview with the website Combate.com.

In addition to announcing his retirement from MMA, Jacaré revealed that he intends to return to competing in jiu-jitsu, a sport in which he also made history.

“I've fought a lot, I retired from jiu-jitsu very early, I think I've fought a lot of MMA and I have no intention of fighting again. It's really over. I'm retiring from MMA, and I'm returning to the sport that made history in me, the sport that I really like”, revealed Jacaré.

Ronaldo Jacare He dedicated 18 years to professional MMA and retired with a record of 26 wins, ten losses and one unsuccessful fight.

After a meteoric start in national events, the Espírito Santo shone in Japan, where he reached the final of a Dream tournament, and later in the United States, where he experienced the best phase of his Strikeforce career. Jacaré was the North American organization's middleweight champion between 2010 and 2011.

In the UFC, Jacaré was always among the top names in the middleweight division, but due to injuries he ended up unable to compete for the organization's belt. The Brazilian was released from the organization in May this year after four consecutive defeats.

Retired from MMA, Jacaré's focus is now on the mats. Three-time world champion in jiu-jitsu black belt, the man from Espírito Santo was enchanted by the recent evolution of the sport and has already returned to training. The future in competitions is still open.

“I'm going back to training and, who knows, I'll compete again. I'm driven by challenges, and jiu-jitsu for me is becoming a challenge, because it's very evolved, there's a lot of new things. It’s beautiful to see”, concluded Jacaré.
