The UFC's much-talked-about debut on FOX Sports 1, a new channel from the organization's partner group in the United States, could feature a Brazilian in his first announced fight. According to journalist Ariel Helwani, from the website MMA fighting, welterweight Thiago Alves already has a verbal agreement signed to face Matt Brown in the event on August 17th.
Thiago “Pitbull” Alves has a record of 20 wins and nine losses. The 29-year-old from Ceará has not fought since March last year, when he lost to Martin Kampmann. His opponent, Matt Brown, has a record of 17 wins and 11 losses. The 32-year-old American has won five consecutive victories – the last of which was over Jordan Mein, on April 20th.
The event that should host the fight between Brown and Pitbull, UFC on FOX Sports, marks the debut of the FS1 channel on North American TV. The new broadcaster, which will be available to around 80 million homes, will be the new home of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter, from the series of events UFC Fight Night and other Ultimate-related programs.
