This Monday (09), in an interview with the Submission Radio program, Jones' coach, Mike Winklejohn stated that as far as he knows, no official offer has been made, but that it would also not be something in which the former middleweight champion heavy duty would be interested at the moment.

“Looking from the outside, I don’t think it would excite Jon. I think Jon wants the big fight, the big challenge, and right now Stipe doesn't represent that. Stipe is amazing, don't get me wrong, but Jon wants the biggest challenge available. That's how Jon Jones think. Thinking like him, it doesn't make sense. It makes sense to go after the title, because honestly, Jon is the pound-for-pound best of all time, so why would he just accept a normal fight? Unless he felt the need to get used to his new physique, but that's not the case. Jon is already used to the new size, so there is no need for a preparatory fight. He’s ready to go and wants the challenge,” Winklejohn explained.

Mike Winklejohn also stated that he can imagine Jon Jones Skipping the interim champion's queue Ciryl Gane and challenging Francis Ngannou for the interim title.

PUBLICITY:

“I believe Jon can jump the queue. Of course, I don't speak for him, nor for his manager, but to me it makes sense. We are training all the time to face Francis (Ngannou)”, said the coach.

However, it seems likely that the UFC will unify the heavyweight belts between Gane and Ngannou before thinking about including Jon Jones in the conversation. With that being the case, Winklejohn believes the former light heavyweight champion can defeat either man.

PUBLICITY:

“Insane power is always scary, it freezes a lot of people. That's what Francis has. He's an explosive and scary guy. He hits hard too, but has a lot more fine-tuned tools. They are completely different opponents. Both are scary in their own ways, but both are also 'defeatable'”, concluded the coach.
