Ciryl Gane puts on a show, beats Derrick Lewis by knockout and wins interim heavyweight belt at UFC 265

He's legit. Star of the main fight UFC 265, held this Saturday (7), in Houston (USA), Cyryl Gane defeated the 'giant' Derrick Lewis and won the interim heavyweight belt (up to 120,2kg.). With a show of technique, the Frenchman once again shined in the organization and defeated the North American with a knockout in the third round.

Considered a big name for the future of MMA, Gane entered the octagon seeking the title, but also defending his unbeaten record in his career. With the triumph, the athlete reached 10 victories.

With the result, Ciryl won the right to challenge the category's linear champion. The athlete now awaits the date to exchange forces against the feared Francis Ngannou.

Defeated at the weekend, Lewis was unable to find his opponent in the confrontation. For three rounds, the 'giant' failed to connect his strongest blow and was easy prey for his opponent's refined technique.

New interim champion, Gane made history for his country. The fighter became the first Frenchman to win the Ultimate title.

The fight

The duel started with Lewis risking a high kick. The 'giant' lost his balance and ended up being hit by a hook from the Frenchman. The North American did not accuse the coup and was still waiting for the best moment to attack. Gane tried to surround his rival close to the bars and scored with low kicks. While Ciryl took the actions, Derrick cocked his right hand, but did not release his famous attack. Aware of the dangers, Gane operated from a long distance and launched targeted attacks. Lewis continued to save his strikes and was at a disadvantage in the stand-up fight. Near the final minute, Derrick threatened a sequence of straights and crosses, but Ciryl was attentive and evasive. In the final seconds, the Frenchman hit Lewis with a direct shot, but there was no more time.

In the second stage, Ciryl continued following the initial strategy of fighting at long distance. With low kicks and jabs, the Frenchman scored against his opponent, who was unable to connect his best attacks. After almost two minutes, Derrick exploded again at his opponent, but Gane was leaving his opponent's range of action. Halfway through the round, the heavyweights went to the clinch, with Ciryl pressing his rival against the bars. The duel was unfolding and Lewis continued to have difficulty finding the Frenchman in the Octagon. In the final minute, the athletes unleashed crosses, but the blows went empty.

Trying to recover from the losses of the initial rounds, Derrick took the initiative in the third round with a low kick. Gane responded in kind and began to undermine the 'giant's' base. The Frenchman continued attacking the American's left leg, who began to limp. Ciryl took advantage of the good moment and continued to shake his opponent with leg attacks. Noticing his opponent's injury, Gane attacked his rival with a series of punches. Lewis turned his back and accused the attacks. In the final minute, Lewis attacked and collapsed. The Frenchman continued to strike until the referee stopped the dispute.
