After the setback, Sandhagen used his official account on 'Instagram' (see below) to make an official statement. He tried to congratulate his opponent, saying that he will continue his journey strong and promising that he will be world champion next year.
“My thoughts on the fight, as I'm sure some of you are curious: I think I should have done more to win. I made some mistakes that gave him an edge in the judges' minds. I stayed protected and defended almost every attempt, while landing the strongest and cleanest (blows). He was able to control the cage for longer without causing any damage. It's up to you to score yourself a winner. I'll give TJ credit for fighting hard. It was a coin toss. If it's damage, I win. If it's control, he wins. And so it goes. Thank you for everyone's support. I'll keep climbing (…) Good job, TJ. Some mistakes made him win. I will still be champion next year. Strong heart always. The journey continues,” wrote Sandhagen.
In the fight, Cory tried to bet on his size and even rocked TJ. The North American, however, suffered from the wrestling game and pressure from his opponent and, despite managing to remain balanced, he was unable to achieve his third consecutive victory in Ultimate.
Now, Sandhagen has a career record of 14 wins and three losses. So, to win the title, he will have to rebuild his path in the organization's bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg).
