Next Saturday (24), TJ Dillashaw returns to the octagon after serving a two-year suspension for being caught in an anti-doping test carried out by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency). The former bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg) admitted to using the substance Erythropoietin, popularly known as EPO, but minimized its benefits.

“I would let all my opponents use what I used. I wouldn't care, because it didn't help me. I feel ten times better now. I had to lie to myself and say how good I felt going into that fight because I was the best in the world and mentally strong, but to be honest I wouldn't mind if any of those guys took what I was taking." said Dillashaw at a press conference for the UFC Las Vegas 32.

Former middleweight title challenger (up to 83,9 kg), Chael Sonnen has another opinion regarding the substance used by Dillashaw. Now a UFC commentator for North American ESPN, Sonnen has admitted several times that he used anabolic steroids during part of his career.

“I'm an expert on performance enhancing substances, for all the wrong reasons, but an expert nonetheless. Of them all, EPO was my favorite. It directly affects your cardiovascular performance. It won't make you bigger, it won't make you slimmer, it won't make you stronger. It will give you more resistance. A guy who takes EPO trains longer. He can hit the punching bag many more times, jump the ropes many more times,” explained Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen he also stated that Erythropoietin is a difficult substance to detect in anti-doping tests.

“Now, because of USADA, the athlete knows exactly how to take it and not get caught. That’s all I have to say about it”, he concluded.
