Islam Makhachev's manager wants 'dream fight' against Conor McGregor

After defeating in dominant fashion Thiago Moses last Saturday (19), Islam makhachev showed why he is considered the successor of Khabib Nurmagomedov in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) of the UFC.

After submitting the Brazilian, still inside the octagon, the Russian sensation challenged three fighters who are above him in the division rankings: Rafael dos Anjos, Michael chandler e Tony Ferguson. The latter was even named as the ideal opponent by Makhachev in the post-fight press conference.

For Islam's manager, however, the Russian's dream fight would not be against any of the three challenged athletes. In an interview with journalist Brett Okamoto, from ESPN, Ali Abdelazi stated that he wants to see Makhachev facing Conor McGregor.

“Islam x Conor is my dream fight. It would end all outstanding issues between the two teams. When McGregor comes back, I want to see Makhachev break his neck, not his leg,” said Abdelaziz.

The pending issues cited by Abdelaziz refer to the rivalry between Conor McGregor e Khabib Nurmagomedov, former lightweight champion and Makhachev's mentor. The two faced each other in 2018, when the Russian submitted McGregor and later attacked the Irishman's team, starting a widespread fight in the Octagon.

Conor McGregor recovering from surgery after breaking his left leg in the trilogy against Dustin poirier, in the main fight of the UFC 264 and should only return in the second half of 2022. Islam makhachev, in turn, has been on the back of eight consecutive victories in the lightweight division and intends to have one more fight in 2021.
