With notable passages through the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg) and now the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg), Dustin poirier may soon venture into a new category. According to his coach Phil Daru, 'Diamante' would be successful if he moved to welterweight (up to 77,1kg) and cited the less exhausting weight cut as one of the reasons.

“It would make my job a lot easier. I see him really being dominant and using his skills at that weight range. He's a big boy. Naturally, we wouldn't have to suck his body and worry about calories and cutting weight. Dustin would arrive very healthy, he wouldn't have to exhaust his body and he would be better from a performance point of view. He can get more knockouts in this category,” said Phil.
Despite the high expectations, the coach made a point of emphasizing that everything is still in the field of speculation and stated that he has nothing planned or decided about the change.
“It's not so unlikely, it's something that could happen. That doesn't mean he's going to change, I don't want to speak for him. But I see him getting there and having success in that weight division,” concluded Daru.
Next Saturday (10), Dustin poirier will make the long-awaited trilogy against Conor McGregor No. UFC 264. The winner will face the lightweight champion, the Brazilian charles do brox. Former interim leader of the division, 'Diamante' has a record of 27 triumphs and six setbacks.
