Current number three in the UFC welterweight (up to 77kg) rankings, Leon edwards He may, once again, have his dream of competing for the category belt postponed. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the president of Ultimate, Dana White stated that he welcomes the Englishman's eventual fight against his former rival, Jorge masvidal. In 2019, athletes were involved in a disturbance backstage at an event in London.

“It's a fun fight, I agree. If there is one more fight to be had now, this is it,” said White.
Undefeated in 10 fights in the UFC, Edwards remains in good shape in the organization. The athlete, however, had a hard time in the company in 2020, when he was close to leaving the ranking due to inactivity. The Englishman, however, made two appearances in 2021, with a 'I didn't answer' and a triumph over Nate diaz.
Thinking about keeping Edwards active, Dana justified the idea of holding a duel between the rivals. For the president, it is important that a high-level fighter remains active and, consequently, generates public interest.
“It’s never a good idea to just wait. A lot of bad things happened to guys who waited. This sport is like life. There are no guarantees in life. You have to present yourself, stay relevant. (…) You want the fans screaming for you to be the next challenger”, he concluded.
Current number seven in the group, Masvidal has not performed since the tough defeat to Kamaru Usman in the fight for the category belt, in UFC 261. Recently, 'Jesus das Ruas' admitted his desire to return to action and proposed a confrontation against Nick Diaz ou Colby covington.
If White carries out his plan, the 'big boss' will take a 'fight' that occurred in March 2019 to the Octagon. On that occasion, Leon and Masvidal exchanged punches backstage at the UFC London. The Englishman even left the O2 Arena with an injury to his face caused by a sharp blow from the American.
Remember the confusion
The incident happened while Jorge was giving an interview to 'ESPN'. Noticing Edwards' arrival in space, Masvidal interrupted his speech and walked towards his fellow athlete.
Without time for dialogue, the American punched Leon in the face. The fighters were then pushed away by people nearby.
