Aiming at Charles do Bronx, Poirier avoids controversy and praises the Brazilian

Protagonist of one of the biggest MMA events of the year, Dustin poirier is one step away from becoming the first challenger to the reign of Charles of the Bronx. Opponent of Conor McGregor No. UFC 264, which takes place on July 10, the North American doesn't care about controversy when it comes to the current lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg). “Charles deserves the belt as much as anyone who has ever fought at lightweight. He's been in the UFC for around 10 years. A decade of victories and defeats. He grew again, built a following. It's incredible what he did,” said Poirier, in an interview with 'ESPN'.

Aware that he will face one of the biggest names in the category in recent years, if he wins in the UFC 264, Poirier made a point of highlighting the Brazilian’s qualities. For Dustin, Do Bronx is not at the top of the group by chance.

“He is a very dangerous fighter. He grew up in the octagon. I’ve been following him forever,” he concluded.

To qualify for a fight against Charles, Poirier will not have an easy task. The athlete has a fight scheduled against Conor McGregor, promoting a historical trilogy for the organization. The dispute is currently tied, with one victory each.

In 2014, playing at featherweight (up to 65,7kg), the Irishman got the upper hand, beating his opponent with a hard knockout in the first round. In January 2021, 'Diamante' returned the defeat in kind, running over 'Notório' on the fast track, but in the second round.
