Cezar Mutante starts well, but gets tired and is defeated by an American in PFL 5

Last Brazilian in action in the PFL 5 decagon, held this Thursday (17), Cezar Mutant he had the mission of winning his second consecutive victory in the organization. However, despite a promising start, the Brazilian saw Chris Camozzi 'turn around' the fight and lost the judges' unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-28).

Despite the defeat, Cezar Mutant is guaranteed in the next phase of the tournament. He joins Antonio Shoe Guy and the Norwegian Martin Hamlet. Now, the Minas Gerais player has a record of 14 triumphs and nine setbacks.

On the other hand, veteran Chris Camozzi leaves the tournament with one victory and one defeat. He had lost to Emiliano Sordi and, as he only won by the judges' decision, he was unable to qualify. The North American has a record of 26 positive results and 15 negative results in his career.

Cezar Mutant was fast. Intelligently, the Brazilian exchanged a few blows on his feet before taking down Chris Camozzi. With an advantage, he managed to mount and adjust a position to finish, but saw the North American explode. Still in a position of superiority, the champion of the first edition of TUF Brazil landed other blows on the ground before letting Camozzi get up in the last seconds.

In the second round, the situation reversed. Chris Camozzi gained confidence and achieved Cezar Mutant with good standing combinations. He even defended a takedown and continued 'marching' forward, cornering the Brazilian. On one of the opportunities, the North American landed a good right that knocked his opponent down and made him fall on top. Camozzi continued on top, stifling and connecting a good session of blows on the ground and pound until the end of the round.

The third and decisive round was marked by intensity. Mutante kicked low and Camozzi managed to read it at the right time. The North American took advantage and took down the Brazilian, but it was ineffective and the fight was resumed on the feet. In response, Cezar threw a overhand which was well absorbed by his opponent. More solid in the fight, Chris continued to cross his right and rely on low kicks and waist kicks to undermine his opponent. In the last 20 seconds, Mutante attempted the takedown, but his attempt was rejected. The exchange was frank and ended at a high level.

Current champion of the light heavyweight tournament (up to 93kg), Emiliano Sordi needed a victory against Dan Spohn to confirm his presence in the playoffs and it didn't disappoint. After being almost knocked out in the first round, the Argentine managed to reverse the advantage, but had a point taken away after landing illegal blows. Thus, he drew with the North American in a unanimous decision by the judges (28-28, 28-28, 28-28) and will be in the next phase of the tournament.

With the result, Sordi extends his streak to seven fights without losing. In addition to qualifying for the next phase – with four points and having the chance to win his second championship, the Argentine had his first draw in his career. He also has 23 wins and eight losses.

On the other hand, Spohn says goodbye to the tournament, in addition to having his uncomfortable streak without winning extended to four fights. Professional since 2009, the North American has a record of 18 wins, nine defeats and one draw.

The welterweights (up to 77kg.)  Ray Cooper III and Nikolay Aleksakhin had a very busy fight with many finishing options in the second most important fight of the night in the fifth edition of the PFL. However, after three rounds, the Hawaiian was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

The victory made Ray Cooper III qualify for the semi-finals. Thus, he updates his record to 29 triumphs, seven setbacks and one draw. Aleksakhin suffers his sixth career defeat. He also has 24 wins and one no contest.
