With Dana White's confirmation that he will be the next challenger for the welterweight belt (up to 77,1kg), Colby covington has already started to provoke the champion Kamaru Usman. The North American accused the Nigerian of not wanting a rematch and of 'hiding in Africa' so as not to face him again. The statement was given in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

“They (UFC) are just waiting for 'Marty' (Usman). He's been on the run since he beat that fragile guy (Masvidal). Kamaru has just discovered that there is nowhere left to hide. He's going to have to be inside the octagon sooner or later. As soon as his balls stop shrinking and he returns to earth, he can fight me again. But the issue is that he is off-grid. Usman has his phone on airplane mode, refusing calls from the UFC. He doesn’t want to sign the contract”, declared the American.

Colby's 'machine gun' of provocations didn't stop and he accused the group's leader of 'hiding in Africa' to avoid a rematch between them.

“Usman is waiting for some alien invasion to pick another washed-up former lightweight to fight. He stops hiding in his home country. We know this was the first time you went to Africa. You were born in Dallas and went to college in Nebraska. Stop hiding from me in Africa, come back to America and let's close this deal. The UFC came my way and I'm happy. This is the opportunity that takes me to another level in MMA and I'm looking forward to it. This will lead me to bigger and better fights. This is the fight that everyone wants to see”, concluded the 'bad boy'.

On that occasion, the Nigerian emerged victorious and confirmed his first title defense by knocking out 'Chaos' in the fifth round.
