Vitor Belfort confirms agreement to face Evander Holyfield in boxing in August

Brazilian MMA icon, 'Fenômeno' reveals agreement to exchange forces with legend of the 'noble art'; carioca has appointment against youtuber on June 19

Brazilian icon in MMA, Vitor belfort is willing to continue with boxing appearances. After confirming a match against the youtuber Mike Holston, 'The Real Tarzan', on June 19, the former UFC champion already has a new opponent in sight. In a press conference to promote his duel next week, the 'Phenomenon' confirmed an agreement to test himself against the legend of the 'noble art', Evander Holyfield, in August.

“The fight was supposed to be with Holyfield, but he didn’t accept it. His team accepted. Then, they asked me if I wanted to fight the guy (Holston), because he was the only one who accepted. We tried several (names), but none of them were suitable. So, in August, I will face Holyfield. That's the deal. Let's do a crossover. It’s time to have the fights that the fans want, but it’s not just fights, it’s the experience”, said the Brazilian.

Protagonists of the clash on June 19, which takes place in Miami (USA), Belfort will return to compete after a hiatus of more than three years. Vitor's last fight took place in the defeat suffered by Lyoto Machida, which marked his farewell to the UFC.

After the hard setback suffered by his compatriot, Belfort signed a contract with ONE Championship. Also acting as an ambassador for the Asian company, the Brazilian did not make his debut for the company. The 44-year-old veteran had a clash against the 'giant' Alain Ngalani, however, the clash ended up not happening due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After following the return of one of his biggest career rivals, Mike Tyson, in 2020, Holyfield admitted his desire to follow in his former opponent's footsteps and return to the ring.
