Aiming for the rooster belt (up to 61,2kg.), Rob font had a gala performance in the main fight of the UFC Las Vegas 27, held this Saturday (22). In front of the former category champion, cody garbrandt, the North American took no notice of his rival and gave a real striking lesson. After five rounds, the combatant was declared the winner with a unanimous decision by the judges.

With the victory, Font took an important step within the category led by aljamain sterling. Current number three in the group, the athlete also extended his winning streak to four and further established himself as one of the main candidates to fight for the title.
After running over Raphael Assunção in his last duel, Garbrandt was unable to impose his second consecutive victory. With the setback, the former champion of the category loses again and now has four defeats in the last five appearances.
In the interview after the fight, Font avoided asking for a title fight. The fighter stated that he will be patient until the opportunity arrives.
The fight
Right at the beginning of the fight, Garbrandt surprised Font with a low kick, unbalancing his rival. Fonte tried to respond with a jab, but the blow went empty. With a sequence of two jabs, Rob touched the former champion's face, who absorbed the attacks well. A straight shot from Font shook Cody, but the athlete recovered well. Rob attacked his opponent again with a kick to the chin, but ended up being taken down by Garbrandt. Cody threw punches from below, but Rob managed to explode and get up. With a new right, Font again rocked his opponent, but, once again, the former champion took the duel to the ground. Rob got up and the round ended with the roosters exchanging blows.
In the second stage, the athletes rehearsed a frank exchange, but Garbrandt took advantage of his opponent's carelessness, looked for his legs and knocked Font down. On top, Cody tried transitions, but Rob defended himself. Garbrandt gave up his position and the duel was once again fought standing up. Rob hit his opponent's face with two jabs and continued chasing the former champion around the Octagon. Near the final minute, Font continued to have the advantage in striking, delivering the most effective blows. Cody had difficulty finding the distance and launched attacks that passed in the void. In the final seconds, Garbrandt attempted another takedown, but there was no more time.
The third round began with the athletes exchanging punches and kicks around the octagon. Font remained more active, while Cody seemed to be waiting for a perfect counterattack. With his sharp hands, Rob continued to touch Garbrandt's face with ease. The former champion was unable to stop his opponent's momentum and sought another takedown, defended by his rival. With a clean jab and right to Cody's face, Font pressed his rival against the bars. Cody tried to take him down again, but Rob showed concentration. Towards the end of the stage, the athletes saved their attacks until the bell sounded.
The fourth stage began with Garbrandt delivering a low kick, seeking to shake Font's base. Rob continued walking forward and again connected a series of punches to the former champion's face. Cody moved around the octagon a lot, but the advantage remained with Rob, who continued to hurt the former champion's head with jabs. Halfway through the stage, he hit Font with a direct shot, but his rival recovered quickly. Walking backwards, Garbrandt was unable to defend himself from his opponent's speed. Font was more efficient and had the most effective strikes. The assault ended with the fighters studying each other in the center of the Octagon.
In the final round, Cody started trying to recover from the loss. Right from the start, the former champion attacked his opponent with a series of punches. Font defended well and countered with a jab and straight shot. Halfway through the stage, a cross from Garbrandt came cleanly into Font's face. Rob was unfazed and tried to discount it. An uppercut on Cody forced the former champion to walk back. The fighter did not give up, but once again became the victim of Font's precise attacks. Towards the final minute, Rob continued to apply pressure and sought a knockout over his opponent, who was showing signs of wear and tear. The confrontation ended with Font pulling Garbrandt to the ground, but there was no more time.
