Shortly after the official announcement of UFC 162, with the middleweight belt dispute between Anderson Silva e Chris Weidman as the main fight, on July 6th, the Ultimate organization was quick to release more fights for the night's card. At once, three clashes were added: the duel between Brazilian light heavyweights Rafael 'Feijão' and Thiago Silva; the debut of Roger gracie in the organization, against Tim Kennedy; and the fight between middleweights Tim Boetsh and Mark Muñoz.

Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Rafael “Feijão” Cavalcante has his first UFC fight against Thiago Silva, who seeks rehabilitation in his career. Thiago comes from four negative results, as his last two victories – against Brandon Vera, in 2011, and Stanislav Nedkov, in 2012 – were reverted to 'No contest' when the São Paulo native was caught in the anti-doping test.

The other two fights are valid for the middleweight category. The first of these is the already anticipated debut of Roger gracie in Ultimate, against Tim Kennedy, a former Strikeforce fighter – just like the Brazilian. The second is the meeting between two athletes who were close to fighting for the category's belt, but were defeated in their last appearances in the octagon: Tim Boetsch and Mark Muñoz.
