“I wanted to face TJ (Dillashaw) but I couldn't, so we thought we'd José Aldo and they offered me Cody. I know Garbrandt is as big a name as Dillashaw. I'm excited. He wasn't on my radar and I was very surprised when they suggested his name to me,” said Font.
Showing a lot of respect for Cody, Font talked about his game plan and declared that he doesn't intend to let the match come to the judges' decision.
“It will be an exciting and scary challenge. I plan to frustrate this guy, make him make a mistake and pay for it. The plan is not to let it get to the fifth round but I'm prepared for anything. It’s going to be great for both of us and unless one knocks out the other, it will be an exciting fight”, declared the bantamweight.
The American also stated that he believes that if he defeats Garbrandt, he will be very close to an opportunity to fight for the bantamweight belt.
“I'm going out there and I want to get past this guy and then get very close to a title shot. You never know what could happen in terms of injuries and everything, I could be able to come in at any time and get a title shot,” concluded Rob.
Riding on a three-fight win streak, Font is currently third in the bantamweight rankings. His last defeat was to Raphael Assunção at UFC 226 in July 2018. The American has a record of 18 triumphs and four setbacks.
