The imposing victory of Charles of the Bronx in the main fight of UFC 262 means more to the Brazilian than just winning the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg). After running over Michael chandler and assume the throne of the group, the Brazilian has an important message for those who accused him of succumbing in important fights. At the press conference after the show, the champion spoke about the subject.

"It is funny. People, when they come here to fight, try to get into my head somehow. Michael (Chandler) said all the time that when people hit me I backed away, I couldn't handle the pressure. How many years ago did he see this? It happened. It's a new era, a new Charles, a new moment. I've been proving this and telling everyone this. Don't talk about the past. Let's talk about the present. The present is nine consecutive victories. Either I knock out or I submit. I don’t come to play”, said the São Paulo native.
The triumph against Chandler proved the Brazilian's great stage in his career. Feared for his excellent jiu-jitsu, Do Bronx proved, once again, that he goes far beyond his talent in the 'gentle art'. To beat his rival, the Brazilian 'opened his toolbox' and overpowered his opponent with a knockout in the second round.
New owner of the belt, Charles hopes to continue making history within the UFC. This Saturday, the Brazilian put an end to the 'Khabib Era', taking over the position left by the Russian legend, who retired undefeated in October 2020.
With another positive result, Charles extended his undefeated streak in the organization. The champion doesn't know what it's like to lose since the setback to Paul felderin December 2017.
