In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS channel, Barboza highlighted Burgos' intensity in his fights, but revealed that he wants to 'hurt' him in the duel. In this way, he also says he is committed to presenting his best performance in his career.

“He’s a guy who has a lot of volume and throws a lot of punches. It's one of his strong points. But the difference is that I hurt. Everything I throw at him, he will feel it. I'm sure he won't stand in front of me there. I'm going to hurt him. I can already hear commentators saying: 'Wow, this is the best Edson Barboza that we've already watched', especially because that's what I'm feeling,” said Barboza.

Edson Barboza, who made his Ultimate debut in 2010, recently renewed his contract with the organization after much speculation about his future. When asked about the topic, he admits a certain relief at having the peace of mind of a new agreement and felt valued by the franchise.

“I was in the UFC and I thought I deserved to win more than I was making. I was sure that if I went to another event, I would earn more. By the time I arrived, I sat down with Ultimate and we managed to reach an agreement. I was happy to be sure that the UFC values my work”, said the Rio native.

CHANGE TO PENALTIES

After being defeated by Justin gaethje e Paul felder, the Brazilian decided to lower his weight and now competes at featherweight (up to 65,7kg). In the new division, he states that he feels comfortable, although he does not rule out returning to the lightweight division in the future.

“I feel very comfortable. I'm strong, physically well in every way. But I'm a fighter and, who knows, the UFC will offer me a return to the lightweight division. However, my focus is to continue in this category and I am always ready to fight. (…) It’s difficult to say which would be easier. I had the chance to prove myself against the best in the lightweight division – I fought Khabib, Gaethje, Dariush, Pettis. So I've always been among the best, no matter what division I'm in. I am the only Brazilian who is among the 15 best in the (featherweight) category”, he added.

FREQUENT RESULTS

Recently, Edson Barboza comes from controversial results in his last fights. In the fights against Paul felder e Dan Ige, he was defeated in a split decision by the judges, even though the specialized media scored him victory. However, he managed to recover and triumphed against mawan amirkhani unanimously. Now, he talks about the experience and the 'bitter taste' of the setback.

“At the time it hurts too much. We invest a lot of time and a lot of sacrifice to achieve victory. I believe I did a good job and it feels horrible. I hope I never go through this again. But, at the same time, I see the repercussions and it calms me down. I didn’t win on paper, but I believe I managed to win in the last two fights.”

ATHLETE HISTORY

At 35 years old, Barboza is ranked 13th in the featherweight rankings (up to 65,7kg) and has a record of 21 wins and nine losses. Already Shane burgos, 30, is ninth in the division and has 13 triumphs and two setbacks in his career.
