Sergio Pettis talks about his evolution as a fighter and says he is ready to win the Bellator belt

With just over a year in Bellator, Sergio Pettis won two fights and will now compete for the bantamweight belt (under 61,2kg). The North American spoke about his maturity as a fighter and said he had worked hard to reach this moment. The statement was given in the 'half day' of Bellator 258.

“If you fight and don’t have the goal of becoming champion, it doesn’t make sense. I want to have a legacy, belts. I learned a lot, I faced tough opponents who were bigger than me my whole life. I am ready mentally, physically and spiritually. The stars aligned for me to be successful. Little ones have to be respected too. I worked hard for this moment. It's cool to lead one card fantastic team from Bellator and fight for the belt,” said Pettis.

's younger brothershowtime' declared that he doesn't adopt strategy in his fights and that he started to feel better after switching from the flyweight division to the bantamweight division.

“To be honest, I don't have strategies for my fights, I act according to my reaction. I trust myself, my instincts and my body. I have a difficult opponent, but the process is the same. In the flies, I felt fragile. At rooster, I feel happier as a person and as a fighter. When you fight like this, you perform better. Before, I was a child fighting adults. Now, I'm a man facing other men. Before, I fought insecurely but now I believe in myself and I'm excited”, concluded the 'Phenomenon'.

Hired by Bellator in 2020, Sergio Pettis will have his first opportunity to fight for the bantamweight belt in his 'new home'. The American debuted in the company in January of the same year when he submitted Alfred Khashakyan. In July, he beat Ricky Bandejas via unanimous decision by the judges. The fighter has a record of 20 wins and five losses.

Challenger for the bantamweight title, Sergio Pettis will try to end Juan Archuleta's reign. The two athletes face each other in the main fight of the Bellator 258 scheduled for next Friday (7).
