After his cycle in the UFC ended, the athlete ended up seeing Bellator's doors closed for a possible deal. TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) Champion 1, Diego Sanchez he was fired days before the fight that would mark his farewell to Ultimate. The athlete would face Donald Cerrone in the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 26, which takes place this Saturday (8).
The veteran's dismissal was prompted by a conversation between his coach, Joshua Fabia, and UFC executive, Hunter Campbell. In a call, the technician asked the organization for a history of medical examinations carried out by Sanchez throughout his career at the company. The request generated discomfort and distrust on the part of the company, which chose to release the fighter.
At 39 years old, Diego has already expressed his interest in continuing to work as a professional in MMA. When he announced his dismissal, the athlete made a point of making clear his interest in joining the Bellator, ONE Championship and even Bare Knuckle FC (bare gloves boxing) squad.
A professional in mixed martial arts since 2002, Sanchez now has 43 appearances in the sport. The athlete has 20 triumphs and 13 setbacks.
