Just over a month after putting on a show in his Bellator debut, José Augusto 'Gugu' was selected for the 'Fight of Life'. With Yoel romero out of action, the Brazilian took on the challenge of replacing the Cuban in the face of the dangerous Anthony Johnson last minute, in a fight that takes place this Friday (7). Aware of the big commitment, the Bahian doesn't hide his excitement to test himself against the former UFC icon.

“It’s the opportunity of a lifetime. I was very happy and I will do my best to enjoy it. I was just doing maintenance training, because I didn't expect to fight so soon. But I'm fine. I've only been fighting for a short time, I haven't had any injuries, I'm in a good rhythm. I believe everything will be fine”, said the fighter, in a speech sent through his advisor.

In his first challenge, 'Gugu' had no problem winning. In the clash that marked his Bellator debut, the Bahian opened his toolbox and submitted Jonathan Wilson in the first round.

When Agusto agreed to face Johnson in his second fight for the company, he was automatically entered into the light heavyweight tournament (up to 93kg). To win the championship, which, in addition to the belt, gives the best competitor a prize of US$1 million (around R$5,4 million), the Bahian knows he won't have an easy life in front of Anthony.

“He is very dangerous, everyone knows the risk he presents in fights, especially at the beginning. But my expectation is to get there and implement the strategy we thought of, being able to exploit the gaps in his game and come out with this victory. I want to show that I'm here to stay and be the world champion”, concluded the Tupiniquim.

At 29 years old, 'Gugu' is heading towards his 11th commitment as a professional in MMA. Today, the athlete has seven triumphs, two setbacks and one 'fight without result'.
