After leaving the UFC in December 2019, Thiago, who is one of the main people responsible for improving the striking of American Top Team (ATT) athletes, decided to venture into boxing without gloves. Known for his aggression and knockout power, the 37-year-old Brazilian saw the organization as an opportunity to extend his career for a few more years.

Representing Ceará, Pitbull began his MMA career in 2001, facing Gleison Tibau in his professional debut. In 2005, the fighter made his debut in the UFC, where he competed in more than 25 fights.

With 38 appearances in mixed martial arts, Thiago experienced his best moment in Ultimate in 2009, when he was chosen to fight for the welterweight belt. On that occasion, the Brazilian had the tough task of sharing the octagon with the legendary Georges St-Pierre. The fight, however, ended up going to the Canadian, who won by unanimous decision from the judges.
