UFC 157: Fighters make weight and go through the scale challenge

The Brazilian Lyoto Machida and the North American Dan Henderson face off, next Saturday (23), for the chance to compete for the UFC light heavyweight belt. Furthermore, UFC 157 marks the debut of women in the Octagon with the duel between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche. But before stepping into the octagon, the fighters had to overcome the last challenge: the scale. At the show's official weigh-in, held this Friday (22), all athletes scheduled to compete reached the limit of their categories without any major difficulties.

Among the main stars of the event, Machida weighed 91,7 kg, more than 1 kg. below the division limit. In turn, Hendo scored 93 kg, the maximum weight in the category. Among women, both were below the bantamweight category limit, which is 61,3 kg. The challenger Liz Carmouche weighed 60,6 kg, while the beauty Ronda Rousey weighed 61,1 kg.

During the traditional face-off, instead of the tense atmosphere and closed faces, the athletes respected each other. Hendo and Lyoto shook hands before posing for photos. Among the women, Liz couldn't hide her smile, while Ronda closed her face for the photos, but later opened her guard and smiled for the photographers.

UFC 157 takes place this Saturday (16), in Anaheim, and will start at 21 pm. (Brasilia time). Check out the full weigh-in results for the event below:
