Fans eagerly awaiting the return of TJ Dillashaw to the octagon they will have to wait a little longer. Former UFC bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg), the North American suffered a deep cut in a training session and ended up being forced to leave the fight against Cory Sandhagen, scheduled for May 8th. The athlete confirmed the information on his social networks.

“I'm sad to say that I was removed from my fight on May 8th due to a cut I received from a headbutt in training. We will reschedule the fight as soon as possible”, wrote the athlete, in his account on Instagram.
Considered one of the biggest names in the history of Ultimate bantamweight, Dillashaw has not performed since January 2019, when he was beaten by Henry Cejudo when trying to win the flyweight belt (up to 56,7kg.). After the duel, the American ended up caught in an anti-doping test and was suspended for two years.
Authorized to fight since January 2021, the athlete would try to start the path that could lead him to regain his old title. The man chosen for his re-debut was the current number two in the group's ranking, Cory Sandhagen.
According to ESPN, the co-main fight of the July 8th show should be replaced by the clash between Michelle Waterson and the Brazilian Marina Rodriguez. So far, it is not known whether Sandhagen will receive a new opponent or wait for TJ to recover.
At 35 years old, Dillashaw is heading towards his 21st commitment as a professional in MMA. Today, the fighter has 16 triumphs and four setbacks in the sport.
Having a great moment in Ultimate, Sandhagen has two positive results in a row. With 14 wins and two losses in mixed martial arts, the North American doesn't know what it's like to lose since meeting the current group champion, aljamain sterlingIn 2020.
