ONE Championship lightweight (up to 70,3 kg.), Eddie Alvarez, had his loss by disqualification against Iuri Lapicus reversed to a no result fight. In his most recent fight, the American received a 'red card' after allegedly delivering illegal blows to the back of his rival's head. After a decision by 15 independent officials, however, the fight was classified as 'I didn't answer'. The information was released by journalist Ariel Helwani, from 'ESPN'.

“A panel of 15 officers ruled that the fight should have been stopped and a warning issued following the second blow to the back of the head. But it also ruled a 'procedural error' and that it could have withdrawn a red card from Alvarez, with a yellow card issued in its place. The medical review validated the severity of the injury and Lapicus' inability to continue the fight. The decision of 'I didn't answer' was done with justice for all parties”, stated the journalist.
The fight, which took place on April 7, was stopped at 1m02sec. of the first round. At the time, Eddie Alvarez stated that he did not think he should have been disqualified and promised to 'appeal' the loss. It is worth remembering that in the United States, a State Athletic Commission would be needed to decide the case. However, as the ONE Championship is held in Singapore, the organization itself regulates the event.
Now, Alvarez has a record of 30 wins, eight losses and two fights without results in his career. The North American enters action this Wednesday (28), against Rae Yoon Ok.
